Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about joining and participating in TSA.
What is TSA?
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization of students engaged in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Our chapter at Myers Park High School provides opportunities for students to develop technical skills, leadership abilities, and career readiness through competitions, projects, and community service.
Do I need to have technology experience to join?
No prior experience is required! We welcome students of all skill levels. Our club is designed to help you learn and develop skills in various technology areas. We have members who are just beginning their tech journey and others who have been coding or building robots for years.
What competitions do TSA members participate in?
TSA offers over 70 competitive events across various technology categories including robotics, coding, engineering, digital media, and more. Our chapter typically participates in regional competitions in January, state competitions in March, and qualified members may advance to the National TSA Conference in June. Visit our Competitions page for more details.
How much time commitment is required?
We meet twice a week after school (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 PM). Members are expected to attend at least 75% of meetings. Additional time may be required as competitions approach or for specific projects. We understand that students have other commitments, and we work to accommodate various schedules.
Are there financial assistance options for membership dues?
Yes, we have financial assistance available for students who need it. We believe that financial constraints should not prevent any interested student from participating. Please speak with our club advisor confidentially to discuss options.
Can I join mid-year?
Yes, we accept new members throughout the school year. While joining at the beginning of the year is ideal, we understand that interests develop at different times. Note that competition registration deadlines may limit participation in certain events if you join later in the year.
